XHTML - Definition

XHTML is an abbreviation for Extensible HyperText Markup Language. It is basically a stricter, yet cleaner version of HTML. For instance, we know that XML is an extensible markup language that was developed to retain, not only the flexibility of HTML, but also the power of it in order to reduce complexity. Now, XHTML combines the flexibility of HTML with the extensibility of XML. You can think of XHTML as a reformulation of HTML where it can be put to immediate use with modern web browsers just by following a few guidelines.
